The Silent Revival is LOUD

For centuries, the UK has been labeled a Christian nation, with culture, schools, businesses and laws deeply rooted in the Christian values. However, gradually, census data has shown a significant drop in church attendance and religious practice. Let this not discourage you, because there are whispers on the streets of a quiet revival and behind closed doors, in homes and in local churches, the body of Christ is growing.

What many dismiss as a fleeting trend is actually a mighty plan of God moving in Gen Z. Statistics show the percentage of people in the UK identifying as Christians has fallen by 12.7% since 2011, whereas the number of people identifying as atheists or non-religious has increased.

While these statistics don’t tell a hopeful story, we can trust that God is allowing this decline for a greater purpose. Jer 29:11 NIV “‘For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

In 2024, I began to see a spark ignite within Gen Z. By the boldness of a few hundred people online sharing their transformation through the rhetorical TikTok trend ‘the Jesus glow isn’t real’, a ripple effect developed in the online community, and alongside this, I noticed people my age, in their twenties and younger coming to church every Sunday. 

We’re seeing a generation that is hungry for truth, who are searching for purpose. We’re talking about young people who are positioning themselves to receive the Good News. They are actively pursuing God in such a way that is causing the masses to talk about it. Something deeper is happening here, we aren’t dealing with a ‘surface level’ movement.

You’re probably wondering, “What does this have to do with me?” and to be honest, that is a completely valid question. The truth is, while this movement might not be affecting you or your life at the moment, I am confident in saying that it will meet you at your workplace, your school, your home, and your community. God is always moving; He is always working, and more often than not, He works unnoticed until He is ready for His great works to be revealed. Then something happens, and you cannot deny the work of His hands. You might not see it just yet, but trust me when I say that this revival is touching your life. I wonder: are you willing to notice God move?

The silent revival in the UK is growing and it’s reaching people in ways no one can ignore. People have overlooked God’s calling for years, they’ve walked away and gone off to do their own thing, believing their way is better. But now we are witnessing a revival in real time and we can’t deny God’s calling any longer. This revival has been developing long before it was getting shoutouts in the media. My question to you is simple: how will you respond to what God is doing today?
